Gold Fever’s Ian Rowe – moments after being rescued from the Atlantic rowing challenge

Ian Rowe - left and Simon Brown - minutes after getting aboard the Nord Taipei

Gold Fever director Ian Rowe was part of the World Record attempt aboard the Sara G ocean rowing boat. Having completed 2,200 nautical miles of the challenge against difficult weather and with some crew members struggling more than others – the boat had just about kept up with World Record pace.

However disaster struck with just 530 miles to go when the boat capsized in heavy seas – 35 foot waves – and the challenge turned into a fight for survival with all of the crew eventually being rescued after 14 hours in a liferaft.

Ian and his fellow survivor Simon Brown will be visiting schools and companies to talk through their story – how they coped with the brutal regime, the enormity of the challenge and how they turned apparent disaster into an achievement in itself.

Ring Ian on 01234 345534 or email him on ian@gold-fever.net for more information.

Martin addresses Kempston Rotary in Bedford

Last Weds evening, Gold Fever Director, Martin Cross addressed the Kempston Rotary in Bedford to help them celebrate their annual Gala day dinner. The Kempston Rotary is one of the oldest in the town and Bedford has a very proud and celebrated tradition of rowing as Martin highlighted – Tim Foster, Olympic Gold medallist in Sydney 2000, being a famous Bedford Old Boy.

Martin gave a fascinating talk on his experience both as an Olympian and now as a teacher and inspirational coach to school kids up and down the country as a Director of Gold Fever. Keith Lilley, president of the Rotarians at Kempston said after, “Martin was absolutely fantastic and I can’t thank him enough for coming to support us tonight. Not only was he witty and entertaining, regaling stories of previous Olympics but he was also hugely inspirational and really highlighted how passionate he felt about the charitable support and services that we at Rotary do in our community”

If you would like Martin to speak at an event or function you are organising then please e-mail us at info@gold-fever.net or call Tony on 01234 345534.

Teddington School get the Gold Fever effect!

Last Weds 25th Jan, Martin Cross and Tony Rice visited Teddington school in London. A selected group of yr 11 students got the full Gold Fever experience and had a great day develop their vision, beliefs and qualities, whilst proving that you can balance 12 six inch nails on one nail…..with no hands. The day was supported by Clare Thomas, Head of Stuart House, who was fantastic at keeping her students energy levels up with snacks throughout the day. She also makes a great cup of tea, which kept Martin and Tony on top of their game too!

Richard Weeks, Teddington Head, also popped in to see how things were going and said “this is just what these young people need, a bit of focus and belief in themselves that they can achieve so much if they really want it”. Martin will be back at Teddington in the coming weeks carrying out work with the teaching staff and doing some more 1 to 1’s with the students

Want the Gold Fever experience at your school? Want your students to be inspired by Olympic champions? E-mail us at info@gold-fever.net or call on 01234 345534 and speak to Tony.

Atlantic Odyssey ends in despair for rowers

I am sure that a number of you have been following Gold Fever Director, Ian Rowe, as he and 5 other intrepid rowers attempted to cross the Atlantic in a World Record Time. I am sad to inform you that the Atlantic Odyssey voyage has ended prematurely as the Sara G capsized last night in huge seas only 700 miles from their end goal in Barbados. I am delighted to tell you however, that all the lads were picked up safe and well by a diverted cargo ship and are now on their way back to Gibraltar for some well earned R & R and to catch up with their relieved family and friends.

Although the boys will, I’m sure, be devastated to have had to end their journey prematurely, they should be hugely proud of their achievements having rowed 2500 miles across one of the toughest Oceans in the world in some horrendous conditions! We are all exceptional proud of them here at Gold Fever HQ and can’t wait to see Ian and the team when they get home.

Ian had a lovely surprise call from his daughter Sophie live on the Heart Breakfast show with Stuart and Natalie.  Sophie asked her dad “is it a little bit tougher than you thought” to which Ian replied “No. it’s miles harder than i thought !”. Ian promised to tell her (and his other children) every single detail about his amazing journey once he got home. All the crew are over their sea sickness now but suffering with a few aches and pains. Listen to the full interview here

A Night of awards for Gold Fever.

Gold Fever Director Tony Rice spoke at the Inaugural sixth form awards ceremony at Hazeley Academy in Milton Keynes last Thursday evening. Having worked with the 6th form last term, Tony was delighted to be invited back to talk to current and recently departed sixth form students from the Academy and hand out certificates to a number of the students in recognition of their performance in the sixth form.

Tony gave a short inspirational talk to the students and their parents on how maintaining their  focus on the positive feedback and experiences the have been through so far in their lives, both inside and outside school and, for many of the students present, their forthcoming university studies ahead, can help them achieve their future dreams and aspirations and enable them to achieve extraordinary things in the lives.

Tony said “It was a great night and honour and pleasure for me to be invited to this inaugural event. There have been some obviously exceptionally talented students through the sixth form (Hazeley) here and I look forward to seeing some of them achieve great things in the future.

Gold Fever’s Martin Cross spoke at Bishop Wand Schools prize-giving evening at the start of the spring term. Martin’s central message about building Self Belief, skills to overcome set-backs and develop powerful motivation were very well received. Both parents and students got the chance to see Martin’s Olympic Gold and Bronze medals and exchange stories afterwards.

The programme will be aimed at developing skills with both targeted GCSE students and tutors. Martin Cross said: ‘Teddington is the most amazing school to work in. The new building is absolutely stunning. And this, together with the hard work done by staff and students mean both the atmosphere and culture are very positive. I couldn’t be more excited.’
